Overview
Take a 5-day tour to visit the Seven Churches of Revelation, mentioned in the Bible's Book of Revelation by the apostle John. You will leave Istanbul and visit the churches of Ephesus, Pergamon, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, Smyrna, and Laodicea.
What to Expect
Take a 5-day journey through modern-day Turkey to visit the Seven Churches of Revelation, addressed as the Seven Churches of Asia in St. John’s written book of Revelation in the Bible. Departing from Istanbul, you will visit the ruins present in Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamon, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea.
Many of these locations are no longer home to significant Christian populations but as you travel from site to site, you will learn about the religious and historical significance of each place. This trip is an ideal way to see more of Turkey if you are a religious or historical scholar.
Day 1: Istanbul – Izmir – Kusadasi (Meals: D)
Transfer from your hotel in Istanbul to the airport to take the flight to Izmir. Arrive in Izmir and transfer to your hotel in Selcuk. Overnight in Kusadasi.
Day 2: Ephesus (Meals: B, L, D)
Depart for Ephesus and visit the ruins of the Temple of Artemis, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Then proceed to the ancient city of Ephesus where you will explore some of the best preserved theaters, fountains, and buildings in the world. Stop off at the House of the Virgin Mary, a pilgrimage site for many people of all denominations. Overnight in Kusadasi.
Day 3: Symrna – Pergamon (Meals: B, L, D)
Head to Pergamon and visit the Red Hall, Asclepieon, and Acropolis. Then depart for Izmir, where you will visit St. Polycarp Church at Izmir (Smyrna). Overnight at Kusadasi.
Day 4: Thyatira – Philadelphia – Sardes (Meals: B, L, D)
Depart from Selcuk to Thyatira whose remains include a temple and large church. Visit Philadelphia with its famous church of Philadelphia, an important place for the spreading of the Christian faith. Continue on to Sardes, the wealthy capital of the ancient Lydian Empire and one of the most amazing sites in Turkey. Head next to Pamukkale, where you will spend this night.
Day 5: Laodicea – Denizli – Istanbul (Meals: B, L)
Visit what remains of the ancient city of Hierapolis and the limestone travertine. Drive to Laodicea, which is mentioned in Revelation by St. John, and in ancient times was known as "The City of Compromise." After visiting Laodicea, transfer to Denizli Airport to take your flight to Istanbul.
